Guacamole is a famous dip made from the superfood that made millennials gaga!

According to Wikipedia, 'superfood' is a marketing term for food with supposed health benefits due to its nutritional analysis or overall nutritional density. Avocados are full of antioxidants, phosphorous, vitamins K, B6, B5, E, and C, potassium, fiber, and many heart-healthy monounsaturated fats. The oil in avocados is also resistant to heat-induced oxidation. All these qualities make avocado very good for eyesight, skin, and controlling cholesterol. It is a pear-shaped fruit with a pit or a stone inside.

The main ingredients of guac are avocados (obviously), salt, lime juice. Well, that's the basic recipe, there are optional additions such as tomatoes, onions, mint, chili, basil, garlic or mainly anything that goes with the main ingredient. Ripe avocados generally have a creamy, oily texture and have a flavor similar to that of ghee. This flavor and texture is a tad bit overwhelming to the palate. Therefore, the lime juice to cut through the waxy and creamy taste with a tang of acidity, onions, tomatoes, and all the above additions give it a pop of freshness and a sort of a crunch to the otherwise creamy mouthfeel (yes that is a word).

Avocados are a native of central Mexico, where archeologists traced the first avocado cultivation to 750 BC. Much later in the 1500s when the Aztec empire began to get invaded by the Spaniards, the latter observed the former making some kind of a paste from a strange fruit. This paste was called 'ahuaca-molli' where 'ahuaca' meant avocado and 'molli' meant mixture. The fruit avocado, or as the locals called 'ahuacatl' is literally translated into English as 'testicles' (this may be a good time to let you know that this superfood is also an aphrodisiac). This ensures that I'm not having avocados for at least a few weeks now! The Spanish renamed it 'aguacate' based on the original name, which the English now call avocado.

The first English-language mention of avocado was recorded in the 1690s by a certain person called Sir Henry Sloane, and later in 1871, avocado trees were successfully introduced in California. The Hass avocado which is considered as the most popular species of the fruit was discovered and patented by a post worker called Rudolph Hass.

This dip got famous in the United States recently due to Super Bowl and Cinco de Mayo. this helped the world to get to know this tangy, creamy and sometimes crunchy dip, and I'm sure we are all thankful to Mexico for it!
